About Us

The South Coast Buccaneers were a mix of NSW South Coast footballers predominantly out of the Batemans Bay Seahawks Club and played their first game of Masters AFL back in 1989, when the ACT Superules team came down over the Clyde Mountain to the Hanging Rock Oval at Batemans Bay to play an over 35’s game of footy against the lads from the coast.

The original team included Seahawks veterans such as “Poppa Sudsy” White and Doug Gooch, whose sons have since gone on to play with the Buccaneers.

Another of the originals was “The Godfather” Brendan “Bluey” Heenan, who is still leading the Buccaneers charge into 2026.

This contest in 1989 was the first of what would become an annual clash between both clubs, and this continues each year.

The ACT adopted the Buccaneers as a sister club and invited our players to join them and play in the National Carnival each year, with some of our players making an immediate impact with All Australian selection.

Several of our players were named in the ACT Millennium Team of the Century and some have even been honoured as Life Members of the ACT Masters AFL. In 2024 and after many campaigns to contest the Bali 9’s, our over 55’s saluted to take out the tournament.

In 2025, the Buccaneers were accepted as a member of AFL Masters NSW, and made an immediate impact in our first visit up to the Big Smoke in September to win the Sydney Masters Mini Carnival.
